2007 Dauvray Cup Finals Game 2

Regina Cyclones At North Shore Lobsters (03/02/2008)

Center fielder Gary Matthews Jr had 4 hits and Curt Schilling pitched 8 strong
innings as the North Shore Lobsters defeated the Regina Cyclones by a score
of 5 to 1 at Camden Yards.

North Shore set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring 4 runners on
3 hits. That early run support was enough for Schilling(4-1) and North
Shore. North Shore had 13 hits for the night while Regina had 3.

Jason Schmidt(1-1) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the
North Shore offense and allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.

The Lobsters evened the series at one game each as the series moves back to Regina
for games three, four, and five. Depending on how those three games turn out the
series will return again to North Shore for games six and seven if they are necessary.

2008 Playoff Preview

by Tom Fischer
February 14, 2008

Dauvray CupFor the second time in three years a team with a losing regular season record has made it into the playoffs. In 2005, the Hungtington Blizzard made the playoffs with a 79-83 regular season record. Now in 2007, the Tampa Bay Storm (formerly Hill Valley) has made the playoffs, also with a record of 79-83. They will face off against the Philadelphia Phantoms, who repeated as the Northeast Division Champs winning 105 games. Philadelphia will be without the league's homerun king Albert Pujols for the entire playoffs. Other key players, Johnny Damon and Aramis Ramirez, will also miss the playoffs entirely.

The North Shore Lobsters finished the season with a 99-63 record winning the Atlantic Division by 20 games over the Tampa Bay Storm. They will face off with the Algonquin Indians who finished a distant 12 games behind Philadelphia in the Northeast Division. Both North Shore and Algonquin have been in the playoffs before and will put their experience to good use to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

In the Western Conference, perennial juggernaut Omaha will face Syrup City in the first round of the playoffs. Syrup City tied with Ogden for the final playoff spot, and won a one game playoff between the two teams. The Biscuits will try to upset the two time Dauvray Cup Champs but theirs is a long road indeed. The Royals have now won their division four years running and they have won two Dauvray Cups, the only team to accomplish that feat in league history.

Another perennial winner, The Regina Cyclones had a change of ownership this season but still managed to win their division for the third time in five years. Regina will face off against division rival Eureka in the first round of this year's playoffs. The Crabs never went away all season and finished just one game behind the Cyclones so it should, as always when these two teams meet, be a great series.

Phantoms outscored the Algonquin Indians 10 to 6.

German enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He lined a base-hit in the 1st
inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 5th of the season) in
the 3rd inning, hit a single in the 5th inning, lined a one-base hit in the
7th inning and singled in the 8th inning. Philadelphia had 15 hits overall,

Second baseman Tadahito Iguchi smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Jeremy
Bonderman pitched a complete game at Coors Field as the Rockland Reds beat
the ice-cold South Elgin River Bandits by the count of 10 to 5.

Iguchi was a source of great heartache for the South Elgin faithful all
evening. He just kept pounding out hits! He lofted a three-run bomb in the
1st inning, slapped a one-base hit in the 5th inning and popped a two-run
clout over the fence (his 14th of the season) in the 7th inning. Rockland
totaled 15 on the night.

The win was credited to Bonderman(9-11) who went the whole way allowing 5
runs. Jamie Moyer(6-12) was the loser. He allowed Rockland 8 runs in 6 and
1/3 innings of work.

With this win, Rockland has a 45-91 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With
the loss, South Elgin has a record of 3-7 lately, 57-82 overall.

In a dramatic ending at Coors Field the South Elgin River Bandits won in their
last at-bat beating the hopeless Rockland Reds by the count of 7 to 6.

The game was won by South Elgin with a run in the 9th inning. Luis Gonzalez
stroked a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Geoff Geary stepped in
and he threw a high and inside pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a
passed ball. Marcus Giles then doubled giving South Elgin the victory as
26,289 happy fans celebrated wildly. South Elgin had 17 hits for the game
and Rockland had 13.

Ron Mahay(6-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Geary(1-5) ended up with the loss in relief. He was pinned
with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 inning of work.

Kurt Schaden was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of
games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can
relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'

squared off in a tense pitching duel, South Elgin River Bandits finally
emerged victorious over Rockland Reds, 2 to 1.

Byrd pitched a solid game. He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. The
game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

Brian Fuentes gained credit for his 19th save.
