The Washington Senators had an easy time of it at SBC Park defeating the
Portland Beavers by a score of 14 to 7.
Washington jumped on top to stay in the top of the 4th inning as they scored 5
runs on 5 base hits. The key at-bat was by David Dejesus who deflated the
crowd as he tripled scoring two baserunners. Both teams totaled 13 on the
afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Jon Rauch(2-7) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Jason
Marquis(10-13) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 5
walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 57-72. Portland has a record
of 57-75 after the loss.

In a lop-sided win the Portland Beavers tallied 5 runs in the 2nd inning and
ripped the Delaware Destroyers by a 11 to 4 count.
Delaware fell behind quickly as the Portland offense came through in the first
inning plating an isolated run utilizing 2 base hits. Both teams finished
the game with 12 hits.
Jason Marquis(11-13) got the win allowing 4 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. The
loss was charged to Taylor Buchholz(4-1). He was unable to control the
Portland offense and allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
The Portland ballclub's record now stands at 58-75. With this loss, Delaware
has a 6-4 record of late, 63-76 overall.

Derek Jeter had 2 base hits at SBC Park as the Portland Beavers staged a
comeback win over the Delaware Destroyers by the count of 3 to 2.
Portland had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2

Morgan Ensberg followed and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his
13th of the season) making Portland the winners and sending the 8,003 fans

runs. Trevor Hoffman(1-6) was given the loss in relief. 'We just wouldn't
give up,' Jeter said. 'Much of the credit goes to our fans - they were with
us the whole way.'

45,335 fans watched an exciting game at Yankee Stadium. The Washington
Senators topped the Philadelphia Phantoms by the slimmest of margins, 7 to
6.
Washington brought 5 runs across the plate in the top of the 4th inning with
the help of 5 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Nick Markakis who
disappointed the partisan crowd when he lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run (his 6th of the season). Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.
Ted Lilly(5-13) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Bob Howry
gained credit for his 25th save. Chris Carpenter(13-9) was the losing
pitcher. He allowed 3 homeruns in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.

The score was tied at 8 after nine. Portland won the hard fought contest in
the 11th inning. Derek Jeter started the inning off right when he banged out
a single. Ray Durham stepped up to the plate and he doubled bringing in a
run. Bay then smashed a two-run homer (his 31st of the season). It was
roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 5 times.
Chris Britton(5-1) went 4 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Todd Jones was
credited with his 24th save. Kyle Farnsworth(2-6) ended up with the loss in

doubled. Bengie Molina stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.
Kyle Farnsworth then was wild with a pitch. Mike Jacobs followed and he hit
a sacrifice fly which plated a run. One out later, Jim Edmonds stepped in
and he delivered a one-base hit, and an error was also committed, scoring the
final run of the inning. New York had a chance in the 9th but they came up
short.

When questioned about the loss, Rob Conroy said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this
time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'

single to load the bases. After another out, Matt Treanor stepped up to the
plate and he hit a deep fly scoring the run. Rockland had a total of 11 hits
for the game.

Melky Cabrera was up next and he was walked intentionally. Jason Michaels
stepped into the box and lined a single making Vermont the winners and

Eureka took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they scored
2 runs on 2 hits. That early scoring was all that Jose Contreras(13-7)
needed. Eureka had 14 hits for the game and Rockland had 7.
Jeremy Bonderman(7-11) took the loss. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.

the Washington Senators defeated the struggling New York Eggmen by the score
of 8 to 0 at Petco Park.
Washburn(11-7) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed just 6 hits
and 3 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.52 to 3.30. Neither team
managed to score after the 2nd inning.
Cole Hamels(4-9) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 6 runs and 5 hits in 1
and 1/3 innings.

Miguel Cabrera lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 4 RBI and Gil Meche
allowed Dan Johnson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Wrigley
Field where the streaking Eureka Crabs beat the lifeless Rockland Reds 10 to
1.
It was a good day for Eureka thanks to Cabrera. He delivered a single in the
1st inning, clubbed a three-run home run (his 24th of the season) in the 6th
inning and banged out a one-base hit plating a run in the 8th inning. Eureka
totaled 16 on the night.
The win went to Meche(8-11) who allowed 1 run in the game. Joe Blanton(2-17)
took the loss. He was unable to control the Eureka offense and allowed 12
hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
No one has been able to stop Eureka lately as they lengthened their winning
streak to 7 games. 'It seems we can't lose these days', Dan Johnson
volunteered after the game. Then after a moment to reflect he lamented, 'Oh
great! Now I've gone and jinxed us!'

Washington went ahead for good in the 2nd inning as they scored 2 runs on 2
base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Mark Loretta who made the
Washington fans a happy lot when he doubled which was good for two runs.
Washington had 10 hits overall, while New York had 7.
Ian Snell(8-10) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Snell
got help from Jonathan Broxton who was credited with his 4th save. Matt
Garza(0-7) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 5
walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.
It was another victory for Washington at Petco Park. Now their winning streak
stands at 6 games. Robert Marino was in a great frame of mind in the
clubhouse after the game, 'Everybody's contributing now. Timely hitting,
some slick fielding plays and good pitching when we need it. Man, when
that's happening, this sure is an easy job!'

Blalock was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He ripped a solo home run in the 6th inning and
bombed a two-run dinger (his 9th of the season) in the 7th inning. Eureka
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Carlos Zambrano(5-15) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Joe
Nathan recorded the save, his 19th. Chris Young(9-9) ended up with the loss.
He served up 4 homeruns in his 6 and 2/3 innings.
Dan Johnson was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of
loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've
been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine -
as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'

when he doubled plating two runs. New York made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.

allowing 4 runs. Bob Howry recorded his 27th save. Jeff Francis(4-14)
suffered the loss.
'We won because we did the little things right.' Robert Marino said after the
game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'

In a wild and wooly game at Miller Park, the Mud City Manglers finally topped
the dreadful Rockland Reds by the score of 11 to 10 in 10 inning.
The score was tied at 10 after nine. Finally, Mud City pulled the game out in
the 10th inning. Brad Ausmus stroked a one-base hit. Hanley Ramirez came
next and he banged out a single. Marlon Anderson then laid down a sacrifice
bunt. Aaron Hill came up and he laced a base-hit giving Mud City the victory
and sending the 29,395 home-town fans home happy. Both teams totaled 15 on
the night.
The win was credited to Jimmy Gobble(2-3) who went 4 innings allowing no runs.
The loss was charged to Geoff Geary(1-4) in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1
walk in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Jeremy Bonderman completed the game without help from the bullpen at Miller
Park as the Rockland Reds won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Mud

Ryan Howard slammed 3 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the potent Philadelphia
Phantoms crushed the Algonquin Indians 13 to 3.
Howard was really 'in the zone'. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 1st
inning, delivered a solo blast in the 3rd inning, cleared the fences for a
two-run home run (his 51st of the season) in the 4th inning and laced a
base-knock plating two runs in the 8th inning. Algonquin was out-hit by
Philadelphia, 15 hits to 6.
A.J. Burnett(8-3) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Burnett
got relief help from Josh Johnson who gained credit for his 4th save. Mark
Buehrle(15-10) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 7 innings of work.
'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate today' Howard said

Pat Burrell rocketed 2 homeruns and Roy Oswalt was able to finish what he
started and was credited with a complete game as the Algonquin Indians beat
the Philadelphia Phantoms by a score of 3 to 1.
Algonquin jumped on top to stay in the top of the 5th inning scoring one
runner on 2 hits. Algonquin banged out 8 on the afternoon.
Oswalt(12-10) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Greg Maddux(20-6)
absorbed the loss. The Algonquin ballclub's record now stands at 80-57.
With the loss Philadelphia now has a record of 95-47.

German enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He lined a base-hit in the 1st
inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 5th of the season) in
the 3rd inning, hit a single in the 5th inning, lined a one-base hit in the
7th inning and singled in the 8th inning. Philadelphia had 15 hits overall,
while Algonquin had 12.
Chad Bradford(3-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 2 and 1/3 innings.
Latroy Hawkins(2-6) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 1 hit
without retiring a batter.

Second baseman Tadahito Iguchi smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Jeremy
Bonderman pitched a complete game at Coors Field as the Rockland Reds beat
the ice-cold South Elgin River Bandits by the count of 10 to 5.
Iguchi was a source of great heartache for the South Elgin faithful all
evening. He just kept pounding out hits! He lofted a three-run bomb in the
1st inning, slapped a one-base hit in the 5th inning and popped a two-run
clout over the fence (his 14th of the season) in the 7th inning. Rockland
totaled 15 on the night.
The win was credited to Bonderman(9-11) who went the whole way allowing 5
runs. Jamie Moyer(6-12) was the loser. He allowed Rockland 8 runs in 6 and
1/3 innings of work.
With this win, Rockland has a 45-91 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With
the loss, South Elgin has a record of 3-7 lately, 57-82 overall.

In a dramatic ending at Coors Field the South Elgin River Bandits won in their
last at-bat beating the hopeless Rockland Reds by the count of 7 to 6.
The game was won by South Elgin with a run in the 9th inning. Luis Gonzalez
stroked a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Geoff Geary stepped in
and he threw a high and inside pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a
passed ball. Marcus Giles then doubled giving South Elgin the victory as
26,289 happy fans celebrated wildly. South Elgin had 17 hits for the game
and Rockland had 13.
Ron Mahay(6-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Geary(1-5) ended up with the loss in relief. He was pinned
with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 inning of work.
Kurt Schaden was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of
games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can
relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'

squared off in a tense pitching duel, South Elgin River Bandits finally
emerged victorious over Rockland Reds, 2 to 1.
Byrd pitched a solid game. He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. The
game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Brian Fuentes gained credit for his 19th save.
